Welcome to Spruce Class!
Miss Churchouse is our teacher and Mrs Brook and Mr Nicholson are our Teaching Assistants.
In English we will complete a unit of work based on the book ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty. During this unit children will be using a range of drama techniques as well as writing a diary entry, an informal letter and a description to create tension and suspense. We will be focusing on the composition of writing and working towards specific Year Five writing targets based on the National Curriculum.
The second unit will be based on the poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. In this poetry unit we will also explore the works of other famous Poets and writing our own imagery poem based on the sea. The children in Year Five will also have the opportunity to perform their own compositions.
Our Area of Study this term is Natural Disasters. This will involve researching volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis (and more!) and looking at individual case studies around the word. We will continue to develop our map reading skills and locational knowledge.
In Science this term, our focus will be on ‘Forces’ - explaining the effects of gravity, air resistance and water resistance.
Reading is a huge focus here at Buckingham and it is important that children are encouraged to read daily with adult support. Reading diaries need to be signed at least twice a week and are checked daily by the class teacher.
