Over the last two terms a group of Year 4 children have been involved with reading and discussing ten books. We have met once a week, for an hour, and all of us, including me, have had great fun, but it has also been hard work. Some of the books were very challenging in their concepts, their wide vocabulary and their use of language. The children involved have worked very hard to keep up with the reading, increase their vocabulary and complete homework.
‘The Battle’, held every year, for the past five years, involved three different challenges all based on the ten books. The first round was a quiz; the second round was a form of Pictionary and the final round a piece of drama that was produced, from scratch, in 45 minutes. There were 17 other primary schools competing in the Battle and the competition was fierce.
To our utter delight we won the competition.
I would like to thank:
for working so hard and for making every session we had an enjoyable one.

Children in Year 6 have won the Terry Hinton De Grey History prize for their creative literacy writing skills. They were presented with a shield at the Richmond May fair and their work was on display in the Richmond History Society marquee. Well done to all involved.
We are all in awe of Frankie Allen from our afternoon Nursery who recently starred in an episode of CBeebies' 'Something Special'.
Frankie and his brother Alfie spent the day filming a programme in Bushy Park all about Makaton - a sign language used to help children with their communication, language and literacy skills. Both he and his brother helped the presenters to sign a game about floating sticks and leaves in a stream, and Frankie got to ride his bike for the cameras as well! Congratulations to you both for a fascinating programme.
Well done to Benjamin Taylor of Oak Class for his outstanding performance in a Triathlon he recently took part in. He commented that he was extremely nervous and anxious whilst he got ready for the race. He had to swim 7 lengths, cycle 1.25 miles and run 2000 metres. He said it was a ‘phenomenal, fantastic experience’. Benjamin came 6th out of 63 competitors – Well done! A very impressive performance and we look forward to your future sporting successes.
